A great buy for a great price

It’s a shame about the liner, but atleast you still have the chinstrap as those are hard to find nowadays.

That’s awesome and a big size too. It’s hard to find a beat up postwar Ssh40 for that price. Kevin

Can it be true that this helmet was used in Winterwar and the liner taken out to wear the Ushanka underneath?

I think in the Winter War they just had Budenovkas - and their lack of warmth and inability to wear under a helmet became clear as a result.

It's definitely true that liners were removed from Ssh-36 and 39s to wear with shapka ushankas from their introduction shortly after the Winter War.

These soldiers are wearing the issue balaclava. Impossible to tell if the liners have been removed.

Who has a balaclava and a liner-less SSh-36 and is bored enough to try a little experiment?

These soldiers are wearing shapka ushankas under their helmets.
