Just double checked, that looks indeed like a SSH39, I have not found any Polish, Hungarian or any other helmets from members of the Warsaw Pact that share this design. Very nice condition, too! Hope this helped.

The shell is a Russian SSh39 but looks to be repainted. The factory ink stamp showing year, size, city of manufacture has been painted over with a darker green paint.

    Alter,

The liner and chinstrap are not original to an ssh39. The chinstrap shouldn't be leather, and that liner doesn't match the early ssh39 liners. As real steel said, the paint is not original either. Other than the numbers you listed (means it's a size 2), do you see anything else stamped into the steel of the shell?

MAC, as far as Warsaw Pact countries, the Czech M52 shell and rivet placement are nearly identical to the Russian ssh39, and the two are often confused.

I did not know that about the Czech M52 shell being similar. Maybe this is not an SSh39 ?

    Thanks

    Dear real steel, dear Kevin,

Thank you very much for your comments and evaluations! Indeed there is the postwar Czech Vz53 which is very similiar to a Ssh39. Please see for comparison the site world-war-helmets.com, World War Helmets - Référence de casques de 1915 à nos jours.

According to this site I think it's rather a Ssh39, isn't? The seller tells that there are no further markings. However the liner doesn't match with the common liners for the helmet.

I looked. The Czech 53 the edges do not flare out as much as the SSh39. I see a big difference. Believe yours is the SSh39. But not sure of liner.
