Hello collective wissdom,
this helmet for sale and sold as 'wartime ssh40 helmet' seems to have such a prominent stamp that it freightens me...even if someone used to much ink, should'nt it have been more faded away after all these years ?
Thanks for your input !
Erwin
SSH40 wartime Helmet fake stamp ?
The Lysva metalworking plant adopted their new logo (nicknamed the spider) in 1946. I see 1942 stamped!.. Badly faked stamp indeed.
Original Lysva 1942 stamping:
FYI: sometime in 1948 the Lysva plant switched to refurbishing helmets only. The large P in the stamping means refurbished & was integral to the stamping once the production of new helmets stopped. Here is an example from one of my helmets, sadly the top parts of the M's are missing.
The Lysva plant refurbished helmets from 1948 until 1950, switching then to commercial production. Stalingrad's Red October plant was rebuilt from 1943 to 1946. In 1951 it began manufacturing Ssh 40 helmets again until 1960.
More info from World War Helmets: World War Helmets - Casque Ssh 40 - 1947/1960
