The 2nd (Prussian) Artillery Regiment was formed on 1 January 1921 in Schwerin, in military district II.
In 1937 the regiment was motorized and thereafter Artillerie-Regiment (motorized) 2.
At the beginning of October 1940, when the division was reorganized into the 12th Panzer Division.
On 12 December 1941 The regiment became the Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment 2.

As part of the 12th Panzer Division, the 2nd Panzer Artillery Regiment was self-propelled in mid-August 1943 and equipped with 2 batteries leFH SdKfz 124 Wespe and 1 battery of sFG SdKfz 165 Hummel.
