I am trying to identify and evaluate a piece from my grandfather's war chest. He was a commanding officer in the U.S. 70th Tank Battalion during WWII.

It is a gold bullion eagle over swastika on purple velvet like material.

    Any info is greatly appreciated!

My first thought as well, but the color is off.

Default Volksgerichtshof (people's court) judges robe

Here is an example of a Volksgerichtshof Judge's robe. Obviously not the eagle I am trying to identify.
Does anyone know if judicial uniforms differed between the Volksgerictshof and the Reichsgericht?

True... but this piece has spent the last 77 or so years in a leather pouch inside of a footlocker.
