Kriegsmarine Leather Trousers.

I have managed to acquire a pair of black Kriegsmarine leather Uboat trousers which are original but they have a very broad leather strap built in to the outside of each leg, close to the bottom of the ankle.

I assume (perhaps wrongly) that these straps would have been used to secure the wearer to the boat and would, perhaps, have been used on the conning tower or generally on the outside of the boat.

Any info on these trousers would be appreciated.
