Can anybody tell if this is real. I don't collect armbands only combat medals. A good friend of mine who is a collector gave this to me as a gift. But he wasn't sure if it was real. If you need anymore info please let me know. Thanx.

Thanks for the help. Why was the armband unpopular?
The armband is unpopular because the Volksturm lacks the cachet as a fighting force that attracts collectors. It consisted of the very young and the very old conscripted as a last ditch effort to help defeat the Allies at a point at which the war was lost anyway. The pictures of the Volksturm usually show old men with the armband on their civilian clothes toting Panzerfausts. They were an ineffective fighting force.
Plus the armbands themselves were always around in quantity.
Historically, these are interesting especially in the context of the final battle of Berlin during which Volksturm units were deployed. They were generally wiped out or captured due to their lack of uniform weaponry, age, and spotty training.
That makes sense, definitely a sad story for those poor guys. But, I think it will go good in my collection.
it looks good to me. there were 2 or 3 variants that I know of this armband. some better printed others quite poor.
That armband looks fine.
I never understood also why no one likes these.
Best
