Waffenrock - From Corporal to soldier?

Hi,

We have this Waffenrock in our collection and it appears that this veteran was demoted from corporal (Kanonier) to soldier.

The corporal patch was very well removed and the uniform was never touched.

Opinions, please.

Unit number or cypher have been removed from the straps in accordance with the 1940 regulations.

A chevron appears to have been removed, but you can't assume a demotion as we can't possibly know who removed it and when. It could have been removed by a collector post war, for reasons now unknown.
