I'd respectfully disagree. The lighting, cap fading and more importantly the proud profile of the cap (which is quite possibly a Lubstein) speak again'st a two-tone panelled cap - in my opinion.
Finally found my photo of a continental tunic with tropical straps and m40 cap in use - a turn-around from the tropical tunic with wool straps...
    Regards,
    Mark.

Well i was mistaken about my aforementioned statement that i have never seen this combo before. I have just noticed it on a Max Zastrow's portrait.

Was the war going so bad that this poor chap only got ONE set of pouches for his K98?
That is unusual appears to be a Czechoslovakian VZ Mauser as you can see the underswivel and the sling is odd not a standard K98K sling. timothy

    Some very good images, gentlemen!
Here's one just in the door. The tunic is obviously a later manufactured 1st pattern - but the detail I like is the clearly removed soutache on the cap.
    Regards,
    Mark.

A couple of published photos showing the type of sun helmet, made in Holland that was captured by the Germans when they invaded that country in 1940, and
issued these sun helmets, that were intended to be shipped to the South African military, and instead were worn by the 8th Panzer Regiment when they deployed
to north Africa in early 1941.
