FOR REVIEW: Alcoso Dagger
Gents - I request your thoughts on this Alcoso if I may. The dagger is not in hand so these are the photos I have so far. I know it is best to see the top of the pommel without portopee, but again, I don't have the dagger in my possession. In particular, may I get your thoughts on the cross guard .. is the cross guard acceptable? thank you!

Hi Dan..the guard appears correct for this late period example.
The Pommel should have 12 leaves.
Scabbard is correct to have 2 side screws.

Very nice piece! But it's not a late period example. You can tell by the early Alcoso trademark (2nd trademark) and early pommel. I bet this one has a tapered tang too. Alcoso only used their type 1 and 2 crossguards for a very short time and switched to type 3 pretty early in their production period.

Nice early one, looking at the guard you can see its silver plated iron, its a socalled "Eisenkopf" (Ironhead)
A few producers like Alcoso and SMF produced a small batch with iron based fittings, they are pretty rare and sought after by army dagger collectors.

Always still learning.....this grip looks like a Type C as seen side by side in your reference compared to a Type A and id why I said later production..which from 1936 to 1940 is a wide range.

Larry this is a solid B grip, the middle ridge between the big swirls is way smaller and some like the one above do not have an opening on both sides like the C has.
You have to compare the same type of swirls, as the B and C are way more horizontal then the steep type A
Until mid 1936 is still within the first production year and early.

Hi Ger you have a greater eye for these since you and Danny wrote the book on this topic...I can see a greater difference in your reference and it may be the photo itself that Dan / Zook posted that left me to believe otherwise.
Type As are easy...but Bs and Cs need to be looked at more closely for myself.
