British helmet markings
Hi guys been lurking for quite a while now and have used the forum as a refernce point quite a few times. Now I have a helmet with a white R on the front and rear. the helmet is painted black. what does the R stand for have looked in quite a few places but cant find anything. I know its going to be something obvious but I cant figure it. No markings on the helmet that i can see but the liner arm is marked 7 1/4 m&c 39. can post some photos later when i get home if it will help.
cheers

Re: British helmet markings
Hi Stu, welcome to the forum. I am pleased you are finding it useful.
I can answer your question for you. The "R" marking was used by the Civil Defence and stands for "Rescue" .
Cheers, Ade.

Re: British helmet markings
Actually Ade, it stands for "Rescue". They had the un-enviable job of digging people out of the rubble.
RP/W RP/G RP/R etc were the "Repair parties".
Regards,
Steve
