I stumbled across this and thought I'd share it.

An auction is being held in Bristol, UK on 18 June which includes this rather interesting looking helmet:

    The description reads:
"An original WWII Second World War Civil Defence steel Brodie helmet. The helmet impressed to rim for BMB (Briggs Motor Bodies) and dated 1941. Complete with liner and canvas chin strap. Liner dated 1940. Painted to front ' BRO ' with insignia of a bomb, possibly for Bomb Reconnaissance Officer (or similar). Interesting helmet."

Starting bid is £60 and estimate is £100-£200.

There's also quite alot of other WW2 militaria which looks rather appealing. Here's the current link:

Never seen a Bomb Reconnaissance Officer helmet, a rare item if original.

I think it's Bomb Recording Officer. My home front knowledge is a bit sketchy but I believe BRO was a Civil Defence role responsible for plotting where each bomb landed during a raid. Partly to plot locations of UXB and also for statistical analysis purposes.

    am I correct Ade (Composite)?
