Well, been watching for one of these for a while and finally was able to get one in the collection(and ironically found a second one days after buying this one).
So according to Canadian Second World War Tank Helmets | CSMMI MILART it is thought to be part of a prototype winter helmet that was ordered by the Army Technical Development Board of Canada in October 1944 and according to World War Helmets - Casque Helmet, Crash, Tank Battalion it was developed under Project 1080 and tested in Exercises Eskimo and Polar Bear in the winter of 1944/45. Milart has a very poor still picture that shows a helmet but it is hard to see what it actually is. I started digging and ran across a youtube video showing a parade going through Prince Albert Saskatchewan before the start of Exercise Eskimo when at the 43-45 second mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBytrNt3HNc you see a tank with 2 people who look to be wearing what looks like padded helmets. This is the only example I noticed in the video with others wearing other head gear.
The helmet is made from leather, and sorbo rubber, and the sewing feels rushed with extra string, miss sews etc. It has the smell of old military and old smoke, just want you want from good old militaria.
So I don't know if anyone else knows anything more about this helmet, have any more examples, or what people think of the possible helmets shown in the video.
Thanks for looking (and sorry about the tea towel in the helmet but I needed something to expand the helmet.)
Also if people want more pictures or info feel free to ask.
