Desert Rat headgear?

Could anyone please tell me anything about this helmet? No background on it beyond it was made in 1938. I’m interested what colour scheme it has? I’m thinking Western desert? My late Great Uncle was a Desert Ray. I wonder sometimes if he or one of his mates wore it?

Could be white that has discoloured over the years.
