Could I get some opinions on this M1917? Looks good to me, and from my research it's a home front liner, however it would be my first M1917, so I'd like some opinions. Can anyone confirm?
Cheers,
Nitram

hi nitram any shell stamp marks?dave
Seller did not mention any. Sent an email asking.
EDIT - There were no markings. I think the helmet got a new coat of paint at some point. I've only found two other helmets with that liner setup, but only one refereed to it as a "US Civil Defence" liner.

This is US CD helmet, not combat USM1917

Nitram....
We've got a couple of these types of helmets and from what I have been able to gather they are basically private Mfr helemts likely sold in a department or hardware store during the war years, they are not an "official" Government issued helmet by the OCD. Took me some time to figure this all out as they are so poorly documented. Neither of mine have any markings and are both like new, probably never worn beyond the day they were purchased. Both of ours are much lighter steel than a US issed M1917, one of which has the exact same liner as yours.
Hope that helps a bit.

Helps quite a bit! Thanks for the info. I went ahead and bought it as a final piece of the puzzle for this half of the year. Then after summer I'll get around to finding a proper M1917, or a Kelly (One went on fleabay for 25$ the other week, and I missed out ).
