Mk2 / MK1*
Article about: Not a true MK1* but still a nice home front helmet

Very nice. I like the ripples in the shell.
Might not be home front.
-
I wasn’t sure if home front or not due to the smooth finish.
-
Lots of MKI*s have slightly shiny paint but they are not the same colour as the early MKII home-fronters. That is probably why so many MKI*s were later overpainted with rough camo.
-
Not seen a Mk1* with shiny smooth green paint before.
Interesting, thanks.

Hallo,
Nice helmet!!! I se one relic more similar, whit WWI marks, find in Italy!
Why do ypu call this MKI*. This helmet has a amagnetic RIM, it is a 1939 configuration made whit a WWI shell, i think that is more correct MKII.
For MKI* I think a standard WWI shel whit magnetic rim or whidout rim, MKI liner and MKI bolt.
How do you think?
-
That’s why I said not a true MK1* , but being with a MK1 shell I should of said often referred to as a MK1*. Sorry for the confusion.
-
Technically yes, you are correct in thinking it's a Mk1* if it's a Mk1 shell, Mk1 liner, & Mk1 nut & bolt, with magnetic rim/no rim.
I think some collectors know this, but just want to keep things simple.
-
Personally I call any helmet with a WW1 shell and a WW2 liner a MKI*. Of course the rarest, and most expensive type of MKI* is the one with a magnetic rim plus MKI straps, liner, and chin stap bales.
