Hi friends, its been a while since i posted, but thought i would share this mk2 with you. I found it about a month ago, when i picked it up the chap who gave it me was clearing out the garage of an old WW2 vet. It was hanging on his garage wall, and looks like it hadnt moved for 70 years, full of cob webs and everything, great stuff...
I've to fond out more about the chap, but havent had any luck yet.

Thanks chaps. Its my only helmet with original net i think. I dont really know too much about them, but will have a look around the forum. Is this one an early british net? The helmet is dated 40.
    Thank you,
    Shaun

Yes it's an early, woven British net. There were lots of different styles, depending on the manufacturer ( many of whom were lace makers ). I don't think they started using nets until 1941/2. You won't see any worn at Dunkirk.

First nets I'm sure we're first used in 1939.

Hmmm? I didn't think they were used until the threat of gas attack had been discounted. I would be interesting to see photographic evidence of early use .

I'm away at mo, but think I have a picture.
When we last went to see Marcus I asked him about nets, sure he said 39 was when they were first used.
