Default RAF Flying Helmet - Need Help

    Hi,

A friend offer me this RAF flying helmet with googles. I think it's a Type C helmet from 1943 pattern with Mk.VIII googles. I'm correct about the models?

Helmet and googles are not in the best shape, but both looks original ones and may be from WWII era. I don't see any markings at googles and helmet. There are a name writed in red inside both earcovers that seems to me is "ROCHESTER" and another faint writed in blue that I can't read.

Please, I need to have a notion about it's value in actual state before take my decision.

Very nice looking goggles and helmet, certainly looks the part. In 1938, No 23 Elementary and Reserve Flying Training School (No 26 group RAF) were based at Rochester Airfiled (18 miles East of London) Was a very busy airfield during WW2.

If I understand, for You "ROCHESTER" in this case is a reference to the Airfield, not a pilot name, a interesting possibility.

    Thanks,

Yes sorry I didnt make that clear. As a training school they would normally write the airfiled itself instead of a name. Due to the numerous students they would have going through the school. Could be wrong, just an Idea from experiance.

Great Type 'C' helmet and 'MKVIII' goggles - You are correct about the models.
They've had some use, but are still very, very nice.........!

Hope you get them for a good price !
    Regards,

    Steve.

Depends on how bad you want them, and how good a friend he is !

I'm guessing, but a mint set of MKVIII goggles $300/$350,
and a mint Type C helmet with phones and wiring
    $350/$450. Condition is a factor.........
