For my 16th birthday, I was given a ww1 German steel helmet and sawtooth bayonet.
The Items were sent home as trophies at the end of ww1 by the husband of the woman
who gave them to me. She told me that there was a skull in the box with the helmet
but she had thrown it away years ago.

I was researching a WW2 US Marine today and I came across this photo on page 55 in the following book by mere accident. The exact same photo that started this topic appears in this book, as well, on page 47. I have yet to read the entire piece, but I generally find the information provided quite relevant to this topic. However, having not read the entire piece, I have trepidation in saying I agree with everything contained within.
