    That crossed my mind too Jerry, but it's very big, and to the front.
    Any picture of the inside, or date of helmet, looks an early one.

    If it is an early shell, the liner is later with the sock thingy, like most of these helmets had a long service life. Thought it might help trying to fathom the marking on the helmet.

    ...mmmmm....some folk just paint their right hand nails....... you hoped we wouldn’t notice that....

    Anyway, this isn’t about nails...it’s about a BRITISH HELMET.....a British helmet on War Relics?...who knew?...we’ll all remember where we were when you first posted it......

    Yes back to the subject (-:
    I’ve now purchased the helmet so hopefully when it arrives I’ll be able to date it.
    I spoke to an ex servicemen he doesn’t reckon it’s infantry related because their helmets would be all scrimped up covering the markings, other than that he had no idea.
