The current headquarters of the Minsk Government Palace was, from its completion in 1934 until June 1941, the Party House.
It is a monumental example of Soviet-style architecture. The building was built between 1929 and 1934 with design by architect Iosif Langbard. It is located in the northeast corner of the Independence Square (Ploschad Nezavisimosti), are actually a series of symmetrical buildings of different height.
The complex (the largest in Belarus, with a volume of 240,000 cubic meters) housed the headquarters of the NKVD, until the capture of Minsk by the German army in 1941; and those of the Gestapo, the SS and the Luftwaffe, during the occupation.
During that period, it was a point of tourist interest for soldiers who profusely photographed the building known as the Leninhaus or Parteihaus.
The building remained virtually intact during the liberation of the city in the summer of 1944. There it continues until today.
