Thank you for showing the photos of the Luftwaffe motorist and the marker of Georg Hartmann. I had previously seen the listing for these but found it interesting as Georg was not in the Luftwaffe but rather the Heer. He was a Gefreiter in Stab III./Infanterie Regiment 305. I wish that the large cross was not cast in a shadow such that the inscription could be read. It may be a Luftwaffe marker although only a handful of the casualty cards from Sculeni were not Heer. That is a few men of a Flak Regiment and one bomber crash. An old friend possibly.

    Hello Santi,

This is another touching photo. I have cards for most of the crosses that have discernible names. Unfortunately many are obscured just enough that I do not want to falsely assign a name to the grave. I will also have to break it up into two posts to cover all of the cards. This should open up the stories of more of these men that had fallen.
This photo should depict some of the graves at Heldenfriedhof Awtschino, 20km west-nordwestlich Newel. Many of the men buried here fell at Perewos although some were brought in from neighboring villages. Another two yards were established elsewhere to hold burials from the surrounding area. I should also note that all these are different from where the fallen of 1941 were buried. Today we find that most have been reburied in marked plots or as unknown soldiers in Schtschatkowo, Belarus.
