here is a story from a book I am reading that i wanted to share.
The book contains the testimony of people who experienced the war in a medium-sized city in Belgium.
Presumably a own publication.
The whole book contains many names and mostly sad stories.
It is not that well written, but anyway; here is the story.
The story of a (secret resistance) worker who was employed at a Belgian local military airport, as a bicycle repairman.
This Belgian man is orderd to search and pass useful information regarding the military airfield. He manages to be friend with a German soldier who works in the same air base, in the weapons warehouse. And he is also responsible for arms repairs.
In the beginning only information is passed on, but over time both men also succeeds in stealing weapons and ammunition and passing them on to the local resistance.
Both are discovered and have to flee, even while hiding, they get into difficulties but always manage to get through the net. Even after the liberation, the German former deserter was arrested several times by the Allies.
But his friend from the resistance managed to free him, each time.
The German former LW soldier stayed in Belgium after the war, and started a family.
It could very well be a scenario for a good movie.
The book;
the start of story and the name of the Belgian guy;
