Research U-2507 (German submarine/WWII)
Hello, everyone,
I am currently researching the history of U-2507. A Type XXI submarine (one of the "electric boats"). The commander was Paul Siegmann. U-2507's identifying mark was a ladybug (I assume it was a lucky symbol, but I have no proof of this).
Here is a brief history of this submarine:
The submarine was commissioned on November 6, 1943 from the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg. The keel was laid on June 4, 1944, the launch followed on August 14, 1944 and the commissioning on September 8, 1944 (field post number: M - 42 090). In February 1945, it rescued refugees from the eastern territories and brought them safely from Danzig to Warnemünde. On May 5, 1945, the submarine was sunk by the crew themselves in the course of Operation Rainbow at 5:55 a.m. in the Gelting Bay/Beacon Kalkgrund. In 1946 it was raised and scrapped.
Unfortunately, in the course of my research I have not been able to find a single photo of U-2507 and I have only been able to find one photo of Commander Paul Siegmann on the Internet (which is very small and has a poor resolution).
I would be very happy if one of you could help me with the photos. Of course, I'm just as happy about all other information about U-2507.^^
Best regards
Wolf
