I didn't know if this was the right place to
post this but I am looking for information
on Gottwald Stier—30+ Kills (StuG Brigade 667)
Knight's Cross (date unknown). I think I
have a couple of pictures of him working
as a interpreter for the British. It came
as part of a collection, one of the pictures
is of German POW's and had the following
notes with it.
May 1945, Lauenburg, Germany. Our first task after the war ended was to cope with these German soldiers, 20,000 of them. They had retreated from the Russian Army, but could not cross to the West bank of the Elbe. As they were prisoners of war, we had to control and feed them, before delousing them and arranging transport to take them to POW camps. Lauenburg later became one of the crossing places between the British and Russian Zones, and later between West and East Germany.
Any information would be appreciated, a photo of him
would be out of this world!!!

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
Realy appreciate that Paul and thanks
for coming back so quick, unfortunately
I can not yet see the picture due to a
watermark, I have to have so many posts
before it goes, so would you say that
the chap in you picture looks like
my chap in my picture?
Unfortunately i would say that it isn't Stier in your photos

Thats a shame Paul. On the rear of the photo
it says Steier - Panzer. by the looks of it
he looks pretty well decorated, I know the
picture is not great put can you tell anything
from the photo? On his tunic pocket he
has a Cross, along with a oval badge and
then a smaller circular one, he also has
a medal ribbon/s above that. On the turned
over collar of his tunic he has another ribbon
that looks to be attached to a button.
Interestingly enough he is wearing a Black Panzer wrap with grey Sturmgeschutz trousers, he has the EKII ribbon on the wrap lapel and looks like the EKI and another two wards possibly the Panzersturmabzeichen and a wound badge on the left breast of the wrap.
He isn't wearing a Ritterkreuz !!
You can tell he has been captured by and is working for the British as he still has all his awards
He looks a bit old to be Stier whi looks quite youthful in all the photos i have seen of him,
regards
Paul

I know what you are saying about age Paul
but I have pictures in my collection of men
that were taken at the begining of the war
and then six years later and they have aged
considerably - you only have to imagine the
horrors these men would have seen. Can you
recommend a good source of photos?

He is wearing an enlisted man's belt but it's difficult to see any rank , looks like he might have a Campaign shield on his left arm.
