Hi fella's, I was not to sure where to place this but here it is! This is a large and very heavy lump of masonary stone from the Houses of Parliament in London that was made into a tobacco jar. The stone was recovered along with the wood and lead also used on this piece after the night raids on London which destroyed parts of Westminster in 1940-41. The unusual aspect of this jar is that it has a lead RAF lead crest rather than the usual parliament image to the front and that it is a presentation piece from local Wardens to their superior.
Hope you like it as much as I do, a rare bit of "been there" history!! Leon.

I love this sort of thing. Bookends and ashtrays were made as well, and these days they seem to be in very high demand. I can't find any for love nor money!

This is especially nice, being a presentation piece. Congratulations on a nice find!

    Regards, B.B.

I have had a few of these at work, but only with the usual Houses of Parliament crest.

    Nice item!

    Cheers, Ade.

    Nice piece.

The creation / finance of these pieces (originally) is very interesting...the collection/storage/working of the stone and the subsequent selling etc
