Whatever its just an opinion.
totally agree off site photo hosting costs nothing press the button imrpanpetsis and edit with paint program or any other program
but
I do not agree, the images uploaded by someone of personal items from his collection, you are his copyright and therefore if him because you felt offended, if you publish the pictures anywhere else on your property, estimate or any reason creates lawful owner .....
has the right to delete or do with them what he pleases.
like when a member is banned of forum ,it would have to ask him or allow delete her pictures if he desired.
Maybe what is required is a change in the forums "Terms of Use" regarding images along the lines Jerry has suggested then any revised policy is clear so that members can choose whether they to continue to post or not.
If members are posting unique period images, then copyright watermarking should protect them from copying, if they are of other types of items from their collections, then most forums have in the terms and conditions that any images posted are property of the forum on which they are posted, this is standard on most forums, perhaps reading the T&C's before joining and posting on forums is needed. If you are unwilling to lose control of your images, then perhaps don't post them.
This is all about stopping members deleting images from threads for whatever reason and then leaving those threads useless because they have been deleted or removed from the hosting site.

Owning a period print does NOT impart any copyright ownership to the owner of the print, unless this has been expressly granted by the original photographer even if the original photographer is anonymous through death. The original photographer owns the reproduction rights unless they are signed over to another party. In most cases scans of period prints would be in breach of the original photographer's copyright but enforcing such rights is down to the copyright holder - difficult if dead. This copyright ownership is often confused by the owners of such period prints, film negatives & positives etc.
Different copyright rules applies in most countries to content produced by the State or servant's of the State acting in an official capacity ie, original official letters/documents - these are often deemed in the public domain.
If the membership wishes to discuss this issue please post in this thread.
