It looks more like gold paint rather than plating.

I have a gold one and it got positive reviews on WAF. The paint is identical to a Water/Traffic Police buckle. In a old thread Chad Williams, the go to guy on HJ, said he had only come across 6-7 he thought were real.
There is currently an identical buckle on Gottlieb's auction
Thanks for your opinions. My Russian colleagues do not believe in the existence of such buckles.
It might not be Marine related. If you have seen the photos of the HJ that went to Japan. They were wearing white leather belts and cross straps. They could have worn gold belts.

Unusual buckle to be honest, my gut tells me the paint is not good, I dont like the wear on the buckle the front is too clean, however I have seen a similar colour on a DAF buckle so I think could warrant further investigation, just my own personal opinion

Personally, I don't like the flattened area on the ribbed ring at 8 O'clock but the Paint is still intact in that area. Abit difficult to get wear Beneath paint.

Hello gents,
zepplin , thank you for posting the buckles!
I can't really add anything to this discussion as there is no record of gold Hj buckles being approved or what their purpose would be for that matter. I know that the people whom came before us assumed that a gold HJ would be HJ Navy but there is no record to prove this. There are very few of these that pop up, and the buckles that I have purchased were not sold with a story or for much more than a standard hj in similar condition. I will try and post my gold buckles tonight for review. I am really on the fence about all HJ gold buckles. Could be crap or could be good, I have seen some that the finish is very convincing, with honest wear and pre modern paint. With that said, please make your own opinions
thanks
Chad
