Scharnhorstbund (Scharnhorst League) Veterans Buckle
A full size Scharnhorstbund buckle I recently received to go with a Scharnhorstbund youth buckle.
It is 46mm x 61mm as compared to the youth buckle which is 38mm x 52mm.
Lower ranked Scharnhorst was the first step into the Jungstahlhelm and was the only official youth-organization for the Stahlhelm. It was for boys being 13 through 17 years old.
I have found mention that the Scharnhorstbund was a royalist group of the 1920’s who advocated the return of Kaiser Wilhelm II from self-exile which may explain the crown.
There is not much literature about the Scharnhorstbund but it appears is was active in the mid to late 1920’s. I believe any members underage by the 1930’s would have transitioned into the ĐJ/ĦJ.
