Grip diamond is a post war replacement....Knife is mid period transitional.
Who is Peterson ?

I think you are correct with the diamond Larry. But a rather nice well used transitional HJ knife. I've always like the Hartkopf logo and with the "transitionals" you get both etchings and stamped marks.
Thanks Gentlemen for your input and expertise, but I have to ask what is meant by the term “transitional” you refer to. Larry Petersen is a typo at 2am in the morning. LOL
Transitional in that they were switching to the RZM etch but still had the makers mark on them. Prior it was just a makers mark and post it was just the RZM etching.
That said.......technically the term "transitional" is for knives dated between 1936-1938. Post this period they are just called "dual marked". I'm not sure what period yours is from.
I'm no pro on this...just what I was taught so happy to be corrected....see link below

Thanks MAP, sorry for the confusion and my consfusion, what I need to know is it an authentic German HJ knife issued before the war or during the war. If it is not, then I will return it. Also, is it a Frankenstein, as it was previously mentioned the diamond was from somewhere else. Thanks for your patience with me.
It's authentic, made between 1936-38, the diamond maybe a post war addition, if so it will likely be glued in as the rivets are untouched.
Nice mid period knife, but as stated by Larry and Peter it might have a replaced diamond as there is a gap above on the right side shows a 1 mm gap.

Thank you gentlemen
Hi all can you please help further on this piece I’ve had this blade in my hand, the diamond is not glued, when you tap the diamond it chatters similar to those that are brummy that are fitted correctly, the diamond is loose and can be moved around more centrally
It is not glued…can you give your thoughts on this please? Thanks in advance for any assistance
