The scabbard appears to have been re-painted at some point, but the knife itself is in very good condition displaying all the hallmarks of an original. Proud to have it my collection.

    Hi John,

The scabbard paint looks origional to me with patina & crazing to the paint & scabbard body, the blade looks like it has been buffed up some, overall its a nice knife

    Thank you Mac,
Would be even better if the piant was indeed original, I just assumed the worst. The blade certainly has been cleaned at some point but not too much as to hide its true age.
It's quite difficult for me to get the lighting right to show a true representation in photographs, but it really has some character.
    Especially in person.

Here's a shot of the proof marks also showing a more natural patina to the blade...

Nice Eickhorn John, I agree with Mac that the paint appears original.

I decided to rework this blade, slowing working to dull the over-polished finish it intially displayed. As a result it's finish is now more natural and as you would expect for a knife of this condition.
After some research I too agree the scabbard paint appears to be original

Since the HJ boys were more active and rougher than the SA men...a little simi chrome can not hurt but only help to clean up the blade. Looks Great John..Merry Christmas.
