I know very little of edged weapons and forgive me if I sound ignorant. Why do some HJ knives have the inscription and others not, is it a time-period thing?
Please let me know either way.

the engraver died!! (lol!!)
I believe they dropped the motto some point in 1938. So you are right later knives do not have a motto. Why? I've never heard an answer to that one. This was a time when everything was being rationalized, conscription was in place and cheaper materials and production methods were being sought for everything....
or of course the engraver died

I thought the leader had Blut & Erhe , the rest were plain... some plain were etched later to sell for more money
