    Here is a link to another for comparison, it's in better condition but otherwise you can see the similarities. A rather rare knife all things considered.

    And from this thread you can see how the condition possibly came to be? It's difficult to say but it's certainly lived a long life and could tell many stories.

    Can anybody fix the handle .need a diamond piece .one side is ok the other is chip .thanks alot don't want to destroy original rivits either .

    Regarding the grip plate. You're actually better to leave it as is. The chances are it may have been broken in 1936 or whenever, when HJ boys were throwing their knifes at a tree. It's part of it's history and not uncommon with these knives. Restorations usually don't improve value, though if you found an HJ diamond and carefully glued it in place (without any glue spill) that would be worthwhile.

    IMO, if the correct center pin type of emblem was obtained, it is possible to install it correctly without damage to the grip.
    They do come up for sale once in a while.

    I agree, leave the chipped one as is.

    Found a small makers mark on leather hanger cant make out but see a letter S .
