Hi.
Personally, I think it is not wartime. I would say it's made with a laser.
Why does it seem good? The etching is not one i've seen before and the photo inadequate to closely examine. Something like this you start with the high probability it is a post war addition unless strong evidence to the contrary.
So now what ?

The program ran from 1934 to 1939...
From 1934 to 1939, centralized professional competitions were held in the National Socialist German Reich under the title Reichsberufswettbewerb (Reich Professional Competition), in which young people of all professions and companies could participate. It was carried out by the German Labor Front (DAF) in cooperation with the Hitler Youth (HJ) and the National Socialist German Student Federation (NSDStB). The competition covered three or four topics: professional practice, professional theory, ideological training and, for girls, housekeeping.

Hi Michael.....knives like this including how many decent dress bayos have been ruined by fake etches.....the only glimmer of hope that could at least give the etch a chance would be greater photos as Peter had requested.
For now it could or could not be and would not bet on it as the odds would be heavy against my wallet.
The knife itself would also need to provide photos of the obverse grip showing the diamond , motto and grip plates.
More photos please or this knife I would say is junk.
@ Gwar ....there is truth in the origin of the dedication seen on the tinnie you posted but yet we see these dedications from all other edged types that may have been added postwar or recently. The posted year is another discussion of a 1938 dedication .....but the dedication application itself is under scrutiny.

What now is... finding another HJ knife with this same etching because if there was one there probably would be more, but until we see other examples, I'm skeptical. We know there are certain people that having done a little research on awards and Third Reich events turn these into etchings on authentic blades, that's the issue. In the meantime some close up images of the etching would be useful.
My one non expert observation is that the condition of the blade is much worse than the condition of the etching. I would expect more wear on the etching.

Well the most obvious thing to do is to pick a well known day, motto or festival and put that on a knive.
thats what forgers do, sort of giving it provenance.
Its just what Peter says, the picture is good enough to present it, but not clear enough to see any details.
That alone make it a post war addition.
Cheers
