My example is made by JWS, but I am concerned that the stud is attached to the reverse of the cross in your example.

I'm also wondering what you have. The core is similar to the Godet-Meybauer core
but it looks just (off) to me. I've shared your pictures with a collector friend of
mine. Hopefully he will have a better opinion than I do.

Meybauer, Victoria, Hansen and Godet are some makers that I can think of just of the top
of my head that put the stud directly on the back of the cross.

We believe that it is a frankenstein cross.
The core and front frame are from a Godet 2nd class cross and the
backplate, disc and screw are modern and artificially aged.

    Hi Greg,

    thank you for this information.
Even it is a fake, it is well crafted and I will keep it as an example and name it "Frankenstein Cross, First Class" awarded 1919 in the Zombie war against China

Why would it be fake? there are so many different screw back designs. Only thing maybe possible here is the person lost his original little roundel to screw it tight and has replaced it.
No worries this is an very nice original 1st class iron cross. Peace

Here same example, iron cross also lost smaller screw: https://www.bremer-sammlerparadies.d...ieg-Original-1

Thank you for the link, I´ve seen it. It seems to be difficult to judge it as an original or not. In some German forum like MMF it is judged as a post war work and not original. Anyway I will keep it :-)

Just because you find a fake listed for sale as an original, doesn’t make it original.

So you say its fake and that's that?
