German Pilot Portrait

My only Imperial item so far but probably one of my favourite prices in my collection. Dated 1917 and so fragile and smoke stained, I like to imagine it was pinned to the wall of some Officers drinking establishment all those years ago. I've yet to positively ID the aviator but whoever he was, I'm sure he was quite a character.

It is a very nice portrait. In the bottom left of the picture is that a date & enitials?
Maybe you can find out who it is through some type of orginisation in Germany.
