New Arrival:M17 Gas mask in Named Can

Hi everyone,

Took delivery on this one last week. Fantastic M17 Leather gas mask which is pretty much complete. Has all mask straps in good condition, leather is still soft and supple and lens are still in place and a little cloudy, with spares in the top container. Filter is nicely marked "14.4.18". The real bonus is the can, has the small carry strap and its named. Text says:

Gr. Rudatis
8. Komp ? G.R. ?

Anyone have any idea on the Question marks?

Volksjager, indeed a fine example of an "Lederschutzemaske or Gasmaske 17" these are now not only hard to find, but have increased in price dramatically in the past couple of years ! nice to see its "small" strap still attached, always an added bonus. As to the markings, "G.R." usually means "Garde Regiment" or sometimes "Grenadier Regiment" if the Grenadier was feeling a bit pushed for time on the day he marked his kit ! (as Grenadier regimentals were marked thus "Gr.R.") my betting is its Garde Regiment, but without a number it could be one of several Regiments. Have you looked at the bottom of the can/tin ? to see if the paper disc with its instructions on how to use the mask is still there ?....

Thanks for the replies. Just had a look for the paper at the bottom and it isnt there. Thanks for the info on the name, just a pity I cant make out a number.

I got a camo M16 in yesterday to, just need some daylight for the pics
