    Opinions on this WW1 German Wound Badge would be most welcome please.
    Is this a genuine badge or one of the many copies around.
    it is gold on the reverse but has been painted black on the front.
    Magnetic, with no makers mark.
    Any info much appreciated.

    Hmm, that's a weird one, looks like a gold version painted black. Black versions were known made from painted brass, but this doesn't look like one. Obverse details are weak, but reverse hardware looks good.

    Very interesting. I agree with Vince. Looks to be gold painted and then repainted black. Not a typical brass core Black wound badge. Also agree with Vince on the sloppy/weak obverse details.

    That said, the wear, tear and patina to the award looks old and honest.

    Hi Kev, I do not have a problem with the badge. I have exactly the same design. Magnetic with black over gold. I would say that the soft detailing on your example is from a clogged or worn obverse die, as the rear of the badge shows the details I would expect to see. Weak details do not automatically mean an item is fake. Replacement Imperial verwundetenabzeichen were available at several price points and it is not uncommon to see some badges of lesser quality than others. It is a good badge.
