hello,
the banderol reminds of the battle of Waterloo, a honour the regiment in wich the original owner was entitled to.
The helmet is late 19 th, begin of 20 th century.
I wouldn't touch it and leave as it is, if you are not going to keep it.
You might decrease the valor even more.
If it comes ever to sell or swap, please let me know. I might be intrested.
cheers

Thank you, I think I will keep it for some time :-)

Do you know the year of the helmet is it from 1815 or from the 1900 century
John, that question has been answered 3 or 4 times !
If it was 1815 that would make it also a 19 th century helmet, but IT IS NOT .
It is a late 19th, begin 20 th century helmet.
The second helmet you show is worth a restoration as well! That is a 1870 french -prussian war helmet.

Yes, sorry sometimes the threads mingles up :-). I will tell the other guy what type of helmet he has, he is trying to sell it for 150 Euro :-)

to me it looks lige a Dragon helmet
I believe a Dragoon helmet should have a squared front visor. Your friend's helmet does have a cruciform spike base however so I am inclined to think it is an early model from around 1860s or so.

I'll take it for 150 euro!

I am not keen on these helmets, I just used this site to check it out:
The Line Pickelhaube
I have told the owner that he should keep it, and not sell it for 150 Euro :-)
