Default Reservist Pipe - 4th Company Nassauisches Nr 21 Pionier Battalion

Picked up this wonderful Reservist Pipe this week from a member on this forum.

The Pipe is really in excellent condition with no cracks or chips to the bowl or the wooden parts.

Plus you can clearly see that this one was certainly used.

The pipe is for the 4th Company of the Nassauisches Nr 21 Pionier Batalillon from Mainz-Kastel for the years 1903-1905. Unfortunately this pipe is not named like most of the Reservist Steins we purchase.

    Thanks Greg.

Here are two Photos of the 21st. Although from a different era.

Apparently the 21st was formed in 1901, so this pipe is just right after that.

Looks fantastic Michael and really compliments your Imperial Collection. These are such exquisite pieces and I assume all hand painted? And great photos as per usual.

    Congratulation!!

    Thanks Gents.

Next up I'll be looking for a reservist Flask. Then I'll have the trifecta! (Flask, Pipe and Stein).

I think that pretty much covers all of the reservist memorabilia. Unless there are others that I'm not aware of.

how did they ever smoke them in the trenches with out breaking them? I have one that has a cord attached to the bowl so if it falls off it will stay attached to the stem. many post cards show them being used in the off time in the trenches!

No idea. They are quite fragile and had similar thoughts

These of course (i.e. Reservist Pipe's) were not used in trenches as they were basically a souvenir item from men serving their mandatory 2 year "reservist" service. But the same general type certainly were used in the field.

I've seen these in many sizes. Mine appears to be a mid sized example
