    Major Walter Lierau was group commander of heavy artillery, 2nd Corps. Commander of the Anafartalar Group artillery in August 1915 at Gallipoli. His commanding elements were moved to the Gulf of Smyrna to act as fortress artillery later in 1916. On 14 May 1916, the HMS M30 was sunk by the 15cm guns of the Austro-Hungarian No 36th Bty Motor-Mörser-Batterie while Lierau’s field guns also took part in the action. He continued to command this group and then Army Group Yildrim after they were transferred from Turkey to the fighting in the Holy Land.

    Not much is known about his service in the Great War but Heinrich Ludwig Karl August William Tischbein was Commander (Kraftwagenpark) Armee-Kraftwagen-Kolonne in Turkey for a period. He was awarded the Eiserner Halbmond on 12 August 1917. Before the war he had been a very accomplished racing cyclist and also an employee at Continental AG since 1894. In 1905, he was promoted to Director, and the Board in 1907. He returned to the company after the war then in 1926 he was promoted to Director General and Chairman of the Board of the stock corporation. At some point he joined the Nazi Party and forced his executive and senior colleagues to also join. He retired from Continental AG in 1934.

    Born 1877 in İstanbul
    Died 15 May 1919 in İzmir

    Süleyman Fethi attended military school at a young age, and then the military academy from which he graduated in 1896. In 1899, he was made a staff officer and in Hejaz they clashed with rebel troops. At one point he was wounded during a skirmish. In 1912, he was appointed deputy consultant of the Ministry of War. He served as a colonel during the Great War, and was again wounded during the Gallipoli campaign. He became ill due to his wounds and was sent for treatment to the hot springs in Wiesbaden.
    He returned from Germany after the armistice had been signed. Now Süleyman Fethi would be appointed chairman of the İzmir military branch of the Fourth Corps. Days before the Turkish War of Independence began, he was captured along with other Ottoman soldiers were taken prisoner by Greek forces. He would fall on this day for when he would not shout pro-Greek phrases and they tried to remove his epaulettes, he would be bayonetted 22 times.
