What nationality is this canteen?

Article about: This was brought back from Europe several weeks ago by a friend. I was told that it was found around the Verdun area. I cannot identify the nationality of it after spending a bit of time on

    Default What nationality is this canteen?

    This was brought back from Europe several weeks ago by a friend.
    I was told that it was found around the Verdun area.
    I cannot identify the nationality of it after spending a bit of time on line looking.
    It measures roughly 8 inches in height, 5 inches in width and is about 2 1/2 inches front to back.
    To me it looks like a German variant, but I am not knowledgeable enough in this area.
    Can anyone tell me its nationality?

    It looks very much like a WWI German Canteen to me...with an altered, extended spout...

    That does look similar in shape to my WWI German one, just with a longer neck
