I received this brass plaque/plate quite cheaply.
Can any one identify what it's for?
There doesn't seem to be any stamps or numbers on it, so possibly it could be part of a bigger piece?
I like it as it's unusual..
Any ideas, much appreciated

What an interesting piece. Quite nicely detailed too. Like you I would suspect it's part of the larger piece.
Could been mounted on a photo album, document map etc.
What are the dimensions?
It's 16 x 11 cm.
Perhaps from a memorial of sorts.
Yes, I was thinking the same.
Possibly from a bigger piece, this part being the right sided part, with another identical part on the left?
Taking into account its dimensions and material, perhaps it could be an ornament torn from a tombstone. But it is only a speculation, if we consider that the three typical elements of the monuments to the German heroes are: the oak leaves, the helmet and the eagle (Heldendenkmal: Eichenblätter, Helm und Adler)
If its measures were smaller, I would tend to think that it is the decoration of the cover of a photo album. In any case is a very interesting piece.
I'll venture it was used for any number of memorials, honors, or service mementos, and more or less just a "finding" that could be placed on a plaque, frame, much like you would find at any trophy store today.
I'm trying to get a left hand side piece, replicated if possible?
I think it is likely that it is a double piece, so we will have to wait and see..
