    Hi Tony,

It’s doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen before, however it has colours very similar to those of some of the Imperial German uniforms. I will have a bit of a look around in some of my reference materials and see what I can see. You could also perhaps have a look at the “Kaisers Bunker” website in case there are any leads there that can be chased.

Was it being sold specifically as German?

    Hi Andy
The only thing I found was a reference to German Diplomatic Corps.

Imperial Germany, Kaiser Reich, WWI, Wilhelm I and Wilhelm II.
Yes, it was sold as German.

    Thank you Andy

The button is the clue, it's Prussian, probably post 1870 Imperial. Doesn't look military, so civil or diplomatic most likely.

Dunno about being diplomat coat. But even Tzar Russia officials had very similar or almost identical looking Officials uniforms mid-late 1850- century.
With cuffs and collars being decorated oak-leaves or other ornaments. This level of decoration was Normal, like in posted tunic.
I mean most likely municipality officials, city mayor, or Barons and higher elite with official position.

And I think Red collar and cuffs are Prussian uniform national color theme.
