Default WW1 German Greatcoat - Saxony

Hi everyone. I am thinking of purchasing this WW1 German trenchcoat.

I don't think this has ever been issued. All original stitched buttons and I think dated from 1916 (see photos). I believe this to be from XII (1st Royal Saxon) Army Corps, "102nd (3rd Royal Saxon) Infantry "King Ludwig III of Bavaria". There are a couple of very small moth holes on the skirt but not serious at all considering this is over 100 years old.

    What do you think.

    Cheers Paul

    Here it is.

A work in progress. Just put up a 1916 gas mask canister. Waiting for a belt. and pistol holster.
Does anyone knows the meaning of the stamps and writing on the last picture?? It is placed on the lining at the bottom rightside.

    Hi Paul,

I’m not entirely sure but am thinking if these marks may have been made in the material for measuring when it was being cut to size. You sometimes see these similar blue or pink markings on the leather pads in Imperial German steel helmets which were made when the leather was being cut cut. More often seen in the lighter chrome tanned pads than the earlier examples which are much darker.

Great pickup by the way! These are not often seen and your display will look great with this coat.
