I found this in the bottom of a box of 'junk' that I bought at an estate sale! I think it is a WWI German cigarette case, but not sure. What do you think? IF it is, any idea of value should I decide to sell it? thanks

excalibr, yes it certainly is a cigarette case, patriotic item, sold at barrack and front line canteens to soldiers, a whole range of items were available made of brass with the small "Got Mit Uns" roundal affixed to them, lighters, match holders, crucifixes, etc.
Your case is worth about $30-40.
Prost! Steve.
great! Question--what are the slots for on the part that folds out on the inside?? Are they for matches??
excalibr, no, I think vent slots...incase moisture enters.
good deal. thanks for the info!
WW1, I assume.
Disregard last reply.I am a dummy
I know this post is very old, however I have this same case, a matching match stick case and a belt buckle to form a complete (?) set. They were my great grandfathers. I know the "vent holes" as referred to in earlier posts were not vents, but, in fact were for the cigarette papers. Just found this post and figured I would enlighten everyone =) As I am a cigarette smoker and roll my own, I carry this nice piece of history in my pocket every day.
