Article about: Good evening, I believe the buckle is russian from WW1 but I would like to know more. Thanks in advance PS - last picture is a size comparison with a classic russian imperial buckle

    In Johan Somers' book, "Imperial Russian Field Uniforms and Equipment 1907-1917" it is listed as a militia buckle (Opolochenie, Ополчение) But I have heard them referred to as buckles from punishment battalions and from ersatz battalions. Every example I have seen has been a dug example.


    Shown are a couple that I have in my collection, both from the Tannenberg area.
