    Default Infantrie Sturmabzeichen

    Hi all,

An uncle of mine (by marriage) was in the Luftwaffe in WW2 - a radio operator stationed near the Black Sea. I knew him well after he emigrated from Austria to Ireland. Someone I was too young to ask all the questions I'd like to ask him now. A big regret of mine.

Here he is, at left with two of his Kameraden...

On a visit to Austria in the late '70s, he bought two Infanterie Sturmabzeichen as presents, and two EK2s. One of each for me and one of each for my cousin, his son.

I'll have to post a duplicate query in the EK2 area - Hope that's OK.

Now to the question. Is this I.S. that he bought a good 'un or a bad 'un?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum.
I have edited the title of your thread.
Please read the following thread regarding posting in this section of the forum.
    The Use of German Terminology.

Firstly, your uncle would not likely have earned the Infantire Sturmabzeichen, not impossible, but not likely.
Secondly, unfortunately the one he purchased for you is a copy. The hardware is cast as part of the badge, and this is not how the originals from this maker were made.
You can compare with my example posted here.

    Hi Ralph,

Thanks for that info and the image for comparison. He never claimed to have earned one, it was just a gift he brought back.

I thought I had used the correct terminology though, Infanterie Sturmabzeichen as per the thread you mention? You've changed it to Infantrie which is wrong.

    Regards,

    Dave

Unfortunately it's a bad 'un Dave.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

I thought so, but sentimental value at this stage so no problem.
