Black Watch Sergeants cap badge 1902 - 26
I thought I would show this one here because most collectors never get to see a real one in hand let alone add one to their collections.
If you search on-line just about every one is a fake, some quite good but most really awful with prices ranging from £30 to three figures (really don't want to hook one of those! Usually anything that looks good from a reliable source has been sold ages ago. I have heard dealers say "I've never seen one in 30 years" etc!
The essential differences as is most often the case with such badges is quality ranging from poor at the top end to diabolically bad at the bottom. In many cases the construction and material is also wrong.
There is an earlier version with the QVC (Victorian Crown) worn 1868 -1901 but this is the one that cause the most controversy.
It is the Black Watch glengarry badge worn only by sergeants 1902 -26 (so includes WWI) though some sources include WWII in the period of use I am not aware of this and think this is apocryphal possibly due to an isolated incidence of inappropriate use perhaps by a veteran(s) wearing something similar at a remembrance parade etc. Either way it wasn't officially used after 1926.
This example is in very good condition and I was delighted to capture it even if the price was a little spicy!!
