Hey Blokes
Picked up what I believe is a very nice badge this week ~ ( Don't recall seeing one before even on site (?) )
Bought out of UK from a Militaria trader ~
Victorian Mounted Rifles
Most notably they served in the Boer War/s ~
Appears to be a nice post war badge Sweep. Cool pick-up mate.
Cheers Dave ~
I was quite taken with it ~
I am just downloading the photos from today's Hunt and team member "Terry" scored a unit badge I have never seen ~ We think it may ~ may be associated with the Australian WWI tunnellers ~ (??)
Assist would be greatly appreciated ~
Post up shortly ~
FOUND IT !!
We were pretty close about the badge ~ And I believe it is a WWI badge ~ Beret or hat badge ~
They were a construction unit/
Here is an excellent link with Photos including Australian Pioneer Corp in WWI ! (Pan down the page ~ to see the Australian unit/s in action! )
So I am assuming an Australian Digger was part of this unit and then returned home to the now demolished Tablelands Township of Tinaroo Falls ~ and eventually lost the badge ~
Royal Pioneer Corps & Royal Pioneer Association
Thanks Mick
As for the RPC badge in review would most likely have been a WWII unit badge as there were said units in the area ~ 2/1 , 2/2 and 2/3 RPC,
Whilst I do not collect colour patches to an extent I could not pass this one up for the price.
2/6th Independent Company/ Commando Squadron. "The Purple Devils" unit colour patch.
This unit had a distinguished SW Pacific history ranging from operations during the Kokoda battles of 42' to the Balikpapan landings in July 1945.

Well done to all involved with this thread and thanks for your efforts.
We have all put together a reasonable reference re Australian WW2 insignia I believe and should be useful to all interested members of this forum.
Cheers all and thanks again
